New Year’s Message from the President

Happy New Year. I would like to take this time to thank all of our members for your ongoing support.

We can say 2021 was a year of fresh beginnings, as the world began to brim with hope and optimism. Vaccine rollouts helped us come back together, and Japan held its much anticipated Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, and welcomed a new Prime Minister.

At JCCI, with support from the Consulate General of Japan in New York, our COVID-19 Information Call Center eased the stress of navigating the pandemic for Japanese residents in the New York tri-state area and neighboring states. Together with the Nippon Club, we have also delivered over 11,350 bento boxes through our ongoing COVID-19 Bento Project.

While most of our events last year were held virtually, we were very fortunate to be able to host a couple events in-person, including our Welcome Back Party held in lieu of our traditional Music & Dinner Cruise in the summer, and our 37th Annual Gala, New Horizon, in November at the Peak at Hudson Yards, something we were not able to do last year. While we will continue to monitor the situation and adhere to all state and local government regulations, we are hopeful we can gradually introduce hybrid and in-person events to reunite with our fellow members and partners, and provide ample networking opportunities in 2022.

It is also worth noting that at JCCI this year, we achieve a new milestone by celebrating our 90th anniversary since our founding. Despite our being uncertain about the pandemic, we are certain we will rebuild and maintain our invaluable bond between U.S. and Japan as we have for all these years. In this regard, we ask for your continued support and cooperation. I look forward to the organization expanding upon this strong partnership.

Lastly, I wish you all a safe and healthy 2022.

Sincerely,

Hidenori Takaoka

JCCI President
